High-Power High-Speed Drive System for Advanced Gas Turbine Test Facility

This customer is a leading research center for aerospace propulsion systems in the US. We designed and developed a high-speed / high-power electric drive system for the new test rig. The key features of the drive system included an onboard health monitoring system, a custom HMI (human-machine interface), and programmable and automated test operation features.

Jet-Powered Drone Production Test Cell

This customer is one of the leading defense OEMs. We designed and delivered a test cell for their production line of jet powered drones. This work is based on our experience in developing the TOAST rig.

The features of the test cell included:

  • A compact design to control sound harshness and exhaust fumes
  • Magnetic locked safety access control systems
  • An operator control station with various test control monitoring arrangements

Protective Casing for Optical Sensors

This customer is a local mid-sized manufacturing company. They have been suffering a persistent issue with errors from a laser displacement sensor in their production line. The sensor performs well but appears to deteriorate quickly due to the contamination from its operating environment.

We assessed the situation and designed a protective casing, which actively cooled the sensor head and protected the optics from contaminants with a purging film of clean air.

Production Process Digitization

This customer is a small business who is a key supplier for leading aerospace OEMs. They needed to modernize their production processes to be paper-less and with various automated features.

We designed and upgraded the control systems of their existing machines to introduce automated features and implement barcode-based systems to aid the digitalization of their operational workflow.

Production Spin Test Stand

This customer is a leading self-care consumer product maker. They were interested in a custom designed machine to proof test a high-speed rotational part in their production line. We designed and developed a custom test machine from a white paper to meet the customer’s unique needs.

The features of this small footprint, compact, turn-key high-speed rotor test system included:

  • Ergonomic design for iterative production work
  • An intuitive and easy to use operator interface
  • Bar-code based digitalized operation features, automated work execution and reporting

Add-on Subsystems for High Temperature Spin Testing

We’ve designed and delivered many elevated temperature test systems for leading aerospace organizations worldwide. These projects often involve designing a purpose-built thermal chamber (oven) and test systems for simulating the arduous operating environment in gas turbines.

It is not an easy task to design a test system for high temperature rotors and blades. They are some of the toughest machine parts as they are designed to endure the harsh conditions in operating gas turbines. It takes careful analysis and pragmatic engineering know-how to design a purposeful and robust test system.

Beyond the design of the thermal chamber, we’ve undertaken the holistic scope of the work, including the design and development of:

  • Cooling & heat management systems (to protect the temperature sensitive parts of test chambers or sensors)
  • High-power electrical power supply and control systems
  • System control and user interfaces
  • Customer specified high-temperature instrumentations.
