    Custom Spin Pits

When you have a unique need, Test Devices by SCHECNK offers custom-designed spin pits and test facility solutions.

We have designed and installed over 50 purpose designed spin pits and test facilities world-wide. Many of our installations include unique testing facilities for extremely high energy rotors and spin pits with advanced testing capabilities such as thermal gradient, blade dynamic excitation, and other types of advanced instrumentation and data measurement solutions.

    • Dynamic Spin Rig (DSR) ™: Designed to test balded disks with the effect of centrifugal load. The DSR is used for studying blade dynamics, damping, mistuning effects and high-cycle fatigue (HCF).
    • Low Cycle Fatigue (LCF) Rig: Equipped with high-power, high-speed drives. Designed to deliver rapid cycle capabilities for LCF tests and to shorten your program’s test duration. We offer optional RT-CDS (Real-Time Crack Detection Systems) and purpose designed add-on modules to enhance the LCF test and the data measurement.
    • High Energy Rotor Spin Rig: Features typical capabilities found in Test Devices designed spin pits. This equipment is ideal for performing frequent burst testing or proof testing of high-energy rotors.

High-Speed Drives

Modules & Softwares

Test Devices by SCHECNK offers unique software and packaged solutions as “modules” that can be retrofitted to enhance the capability of your existing or new machines. The modules can be purpose-designed hardware, software or an instrumentation kit for spin testing and other applications. We developed, validated and refined these technologies through our in-house testing operations over many years. These products can be incorporated into a newly ordered spin tester or retrofitted to existing spin Pits to enhance its capabilities. We are also happy to consult with you if some of these modules can be applied to another type of test rig or production machines.

Some popular examples of the standardized modules and software are given in the list below. Contact us to learn what else is on our latest offer and learn more:

  • TD-DAS Software: TD-DAS Software is a versatile and user-friendly data acquisition system (DAS) that was originally designed for spin testing applications. With a wide range of useful features, TD-DAS offers comprehensive capabilities for measuring and recording data during spin testing processes. It can also be effectively used for various other types of testing, making it a valuable tool for engineers and researchers in different industries.
  • LCF-Cycle Checker Software: Quality assurance is a key aspect of our operations. For each Low Cycle Fatigue (LCF) test conducted, we meticulously review the results of every cycle and document test data separately from the spin tester counter. This software streamlines and automates laborious and time-consuming tasks.
  • Rotor Growth & Profile Measurement Systems: During a proof test or overspeed test, rotors experience growth under centrifugal load. The growth and the deformation shape data are valuable information for understanding rotor structure and material behavior, similar to stress-strain data from material tests. Crucial for understanding and designing proper blade tip-to-casing gaps in gas turbines and air-gaps in high-performance electric motors. We put together a prepackaged kit to help you install, setup and perform your test with the growth & profile measurement systems – effortlessly and in an expert-like manner.
  • High Speed Video Test Kit: A picture is worth a thousand words – The same is true when performing a rotor burst test. Setting up and successfully capturing the high-speed video (HSV) of a rotor burst requires a set of expertise and for many newcomers it can be challenging and laborious work. We put together a prepackaged kit to help you install, setup and perform your burst test with HSV – effortlessly and in an expert-like manner.
  • Ovens & Heated Spin Test Subsystems: The data from elevated temperature spin test provides pertinent information and insight for engineers to understand how thermal condition affects the rotor structure behavior. Performing an elevated temperature spin test requires careful preparation and demands expert know-hows. In this module, we offer a multi-zone heater & cooling controller, high-power supply system for the heaters, and purpose-built test oven and instrumentation (for a specific geometry of your test rotor) to help you perform high temperature spin tests.
  • Touch TC: An actuated thermocouple (TC) device that can be deployed to contact and measure the rotor surface temperature when calibrating the rotor test temperature. We developed this solution to improve the efficiency of performing a spin test with a pyrometer(s). Use of a pyrometer is a convenient substitute for the thermocouples, but pyrometers often suffer degradation of optics, requiring frequent checks and re-calibration. A traditional solution needs surface-mounted thermocouples and laborious rotor preparation. Touch TC simplifies this process by allowing engineers to check and calibrate the device without interrupting the test.

Overall, our suite of modules and software is designed to make your testing and production operations more efficient, accurate, and reliable. Whether you are conducting spin tests or other types of work, consider our products to enhance your capability to collect and analyze data more efficiently.
